Episode 22: "Where to Start? Advice for New People SPECIAL! Feat. JUSTICE"

In which we have a dear friend of mine who is on the newer side himself on to roundtable a discussion on beginner resources, advice we have for new people, and just generally chat on how to really get started in the wild world of hypnosis. "Justice" (Javert_Himself in other places online) is an extremely intelligent person with a lot of great things to say. And, you know us. Original airdate: 4/7/17

  1. I can really relate to this episode. As a subject with a few years of giving & receiving hypnosis, I still find I have to let go of analyzing what's said sometimes.

Even so, I borrowed & meshed a few ideas over the years from both erotic hypnosis and hypnotherapy which really helped me make sense of trance as a beginner. Opinions will differ, but this feels right for me:

    (1) It's a completely natural state with an unnatural sounding name. Call it a state of focus, call it mindlessness or even daydreaming... I've learnt to see it all as a form of trance. It's almost like your in-built version of auto-pilot.

    (2) Solo fast-track to trance: Visit social networking, maybe tumblr, and resurface 4-hours later. Watch a movie you love and get deep into it, or, remember a time when you were completely focused on something, no matter how exciting, raunchy or even boring it was and just sit in that memory for a bit. Trance is an umbrella term... it covers a lot.

    (3) A state of "hypnosis"/"trance" is what you make it. Truth is, I can sway or "suggest" things to your mind that it wouldn't have otherwise taken without a special state. Chocolate! And it's so normal for it to happen we don't even notice it until somebody does something out of place.

    (4) A trick I learnt from meditation practices... if you keep getting distracted with thoughts, try being curious/focus on what's happening. At first it feels like it has the opposite effect, but it tires the questioning part and after a while I found it a nice trigger to settle into trance with.

...and for what can be done with trance... it's kind of like asking what is the potential of the human mind.
